Pavement Appreciation

With its resemblance to a tombstone, the pavement is a fitting place for memorials.  Freehand and stencilled notices mark where a person died, where an accident occurred, where a wake was held or when a crime series will be launched on television. Official plaques recall notable people, demolished buildings, past events. Commissioned artworks commemorate former inhabitants and the natural landscape that was obliterated by the pavement itself.
